Lenora and Zachary Chapter 530
Chapter 530 Taking Harrietta Away
Upon hearing the voice, Lenora immediately recognized it as Harrietta's. Sure enough, when she looked over, she saw a delicately beautiful girl sprinting toward her. As Harrietta approached, she waved the camera in her hand excitedly. "Hattie! You're here too. I came for work."
Harrietta's eyes sparkled. "So, you're done with work? Aunt Lenora, can you take me out to play?"
Bjorn, clearly displeased, stepped out of his office and cleared his throat. Casting a meaningful glance at Lenora, he said, "Carol, Ms. Wilkin is busy. Don't disturb her." The more Carol interacted with Lenora, the more distant she might become from Isla. Bjorn would never allow that to happen.
If Lenora had any sense, she would know what was expected of her. Yet, upon seeing Harrietta purse her lips, blink, and give her a pitiful look, Lenora's resolve wavered.
Her heart softened. Looking up at Bjorn, she spoke in fluent Uprian, "I've wrapped up my work for today. Carol won't be a bother to me."
Harrietta's face lit up with delight. In Uprian as well, she cheerfully said, "Thank you, Granddad! Have a great day at work. I'm off to play with Aunt Lenora."
Bjorn shot Lenora a sharp glare. This woman is nothing but trouble!
Unfazed by Bjorn's piercing glare, Lenora responded with a calm, pleasant smile. "Mr. Wilson," she said with poise, "I'll be taking Hattie with me now. Don't worry I'll have her back home tonight."
She fully understood his intentions, but that didn't mean she'd play along. Why should I do things according to his wishes? If Isla wants to win Hattie's affection, she should earn it with sincerity and time-not by trying to keep me away. If Isla doesn't change her ways, Hattie will never grow fond of her, no matter what I do.
Wyatt's expression darkened.
At first, Harrietta had been speaking in Clusian. Aside from Lenora and Bjorn, neither Wyatt nor the others paid much attention to her words.
However, as the conversation continued, Wyatt caught on to the crucial detail the girl was Bjorn's granddaughter, and she was quite close to the Clusian photographer.
This photographer really has no sense of propriety. Can't she see that Mr. Wilson clearly doesn't want Carol leaving with her? She's gone and offended him again!
Wyatt couldn't help saying, "Fay, don't you need to finish editing the photos? The magazine has to be sent to the factory for printing soon. Where do you find time to go out and have fun?"
"Bjorn's eyes lit up with approval, casting an appreciative glance at Wyatt.
Noticing this, Wyatt puffed out his chest with pride, his skeptical gaze landing squarely on Lenora."
"Don't worry, I'll submit the draft on time," Lenora said calmly.
She had already clarified the deadlines with the entertainment magazine editor when she took on the assignment yesterday. The four retouched photos were due within three days of the shoot, so a half-day delay wouldn't be an issue. Meanwhile, the financial magazine's images required less intricate work. Lenora planned to prioritize Bjorn's photos first, knowing she had more flexibility with the entertainment magazine's submission period.
"What if you can't deliver? The entire schedule will be delayed because of you. If the magazine isn't released on time-" Wyatt pressed, his tone sharp.
"If that happens, I'll pay the penalty as stated in the contract," Lenora replied.
Wyatt was momentarily stunned. She was right-there was nothing more he could say. Yet the fact that she shut him down so effortlessly left him simmering with frustration. He had thought he had the upper hand, only to be silenced in an instant.
"Exactly! If Aunt Lenora can't submit the draft, I'll compensate on her behalf!" Harrietta declared, standing with her hands on her hips, her fierce glare locking onto Wyatt.
She had amassed a tidy little fortune in her own right, and with shares in Zachary's company, the year-end dividends were hers to claim.noveldrama
Bjorn had no choice but to step in. He shot a glance at Lenora, then softened his tone. "All right, take Carol out for some fun," he said, adding with a stern note, "but make sure she's back before nine."
"All right, we'll be leaving first then," Lenora replied.
"Goodbye, Granddad."
Harrietta, brimming with excitement, walked alongside Lenora.
"Hattie, how has your stay at your granddad's house been these past few days?" Lenora asked gently.
Harrietta's brows knitted slightly. "They're very kind to me," she replied.
Indeed, Bjorn had made sure all her wishes were fulfilled. Whatever she asked for, he provided without hesitation. Yet, despite the generosity, something felt off. It wasn't about the treatment she received-it was the lack of familiarity, a lingering sense of distance she couldn't quite put into words.
"Good. Where would you like to go today? What would you like to do?"
"Anything works for me." Harrietta said. As long as I'm with Aunt Lenora, even watching cartoons at home would be perfect.
With that, Lenora asked Flynn to drive them to a nearby town. They leisurely wandered, soaking in the natural beauty, and visited both the local zoo and botanical garden As they were leaving the garden, fate led them to cross paths with Jasmine, who was alone,
Jasmine spotted them as well and swiftly stepped forward to block their path. "Nora, what a coincidence! You're here too?" she said with a smile.
Her eyes, however, lingered on Harrietta, her gaze sweeping over her with a certain intensity. So, this is Isla's daughter. No wonder she's both clever and beautiful. Harrietta, feeling uncomfortable under Jasmine's scrutiny, instinctively hid behind Lenora and tugged at her sleeve. "Wicked woman! Go away!" she exclaimed. Jasmine, taken aback by being called a "wicked woman", was at a loss for words.
"Don't worry, Hattie, we're leaving now." Lenora, uninterested in engaging with Jasmine, simply brushed past her and continued walking.
After they had walked a fair distance, Harrietta glanced back, her eyes wide with frustration. "Hmph, who knows what that wicked woman is up to now!" she muttered. Harrietta had a sharp memory and vividly recalled the last time that "wicked woman" had dragged both her and Lenora to the hospital, forcing them to apologize. "Don't bother about her."
"By the way, Aunt Lenora, why does she call you Nora?"
"Hattie, actually, she's my mother."
Harrietta was taken aback. "So, she's still alive?"
It had been so long since Harrietta had heard Lenora mention her mother, and she had almost assumed that Lenora's mother had passed away.
Lenora chuckled softly. "Yes, she's still alive. However, she remarried when I was very young, and we don't get along. You might as well consider her nonexistent." "Oh." Harrietta nodded, then paused as if something occurred to her. "Is she to you what the weird lady is to me?" she asked.
"More or less."
"They're the same kind of people. You can tell just by looking at their faces that they're no good... Ah, now that I think about it, they do look a bit alike!" Harrietta remarked. Lenora paused for a moment, considering the idea. There did seem to be a slight resemblance between Jasmine and Isla, but she didn't give it much thought.
That evening, after returning home, Lenora headed to the supermarket to buy pasta sheets. She prepared the filling to Harrietta's liking and patiently taught her how to make ravioli. Harrietta's ravioli-wrapping skills were far from perfect, but Lenora hadn't expected much to begin with.
After dinner, Lenora drove Harrietta
back to Wilson Manor. She felt that flying back to Jacaster at this hour would be too time-consuming, so she decided to stay and submit the refined photos for the business magazine before returning home.
The next day, she focused on editing the photos, dedicating herself to the task. A day and a half later, the editing was complete. Lenora carefully packaged the four polished photos and sent them to the appropriate editor. About half an hour later, the editor replied via email: The photo does not meet the standard, please reprocess it.
Lenora was taken aback upon reading the message.
How is that possible?
She had stayed up late the night before and gotten up early this morning to continue editing. Each photo had required significant effort, and she was confident they met the standards for magazine publication. She replied: Could you please specify what was unsatisfactory? That way, I can understand what needs to be corrected.
However, the editor never responded.
Lenora carefully examined the
photographs one by one. The
resolution was high enough, so she
wondered if the issue might lie with the arrangement. She adjusted the size and layout of the photo grice more before sending it to the editor again.
After a while, the editor replied: Still not good enough, revise it.
Lenora was stunned. She quickly responded: Which part?
Just tell me directly!
Once again, the editor ignored her. Lenora gritted her teeth in frustration.
Is Wyatt deliberately targeting me because I embarrassed him during the shoot?
What do you think?
