As far as I knew, my father had never worked for Mercer Corporation, so why did he have this contract?

I examined the document again. It was related to new energy development-a sector that was now one of Mercer Corporation's most successful and profitable operations.

Technically, the contract should have belonged to Mercer Corporation, but Ethan's signature wasn't on it. That was strange, considering his deep involvement in such projects.

Setting the contract aside, I picked up my father's notebook and began flipping through it.

The pages were filled with work plans and symbols I couldn't decipher. Near the end, I found a short note written on the last page:

"Let's hope the contract signing goes well.

After that, there was nothing else.

It must have been written shortly before my father's car accident.

I remembered what my dad had told me the night before the accident: "Elaine, I can build you a

playground after tomorrow."

I had hugged him excitedly without thinking to ask why.noveldrama

Now, it all made sense. If he had signed this contract with Alpha Corporation ten years ago, he might have been on the verge of achieving something grand-perhaps building a business empire like Mercer Corporation.

But those dreams had been shattered by his untimely death.

The thought hit me like a tidal wave: Was my father's car accident truly an accident? Could it have been connected to the contract?

A chill ran down my spine as chaotic thoughts flooded my mind, leaving me paralyzed in the storage

room.

After a long moment, I resolved to investigate the matter myself. And I would start with Alfred Kramer, the head of Alpha Corporation at the time.

It wasn't going to be easy. Alfred had retired years ago due to bladder cancer and had passed the company to his son. I remembered overhearing Ethan and Tessa mention his health in passing.

If Alfred was still alive, he was likely recuperating in some health and wellness center. Since Ethan visited him regularly, I could use that connection to track him down.

The challenge was getting the information. Ethan's chauffeur, Ben Glover, had been with him for over a decade. Ben was loyal and discreet-qualities that made him trustworthy to Ethan but a difficult source to exploit.

I needed to be clever.

After some research, I narrowed down the possible locations to three health centers in Hilcord. But

without Ben's help, I couldn't determine which one Alfred was staying at.

An idea began to form. If I could borrow Ben's car, I could check its dashcam recordings. Since Ethan 15:57

Borrowing the car would be tricky. I already owned a car, and if I suddenly asked for another, Ethan might offer to buy me a new one instead. That would raise suspicion.

Miles, on the other hand, was the perfect excuse. He had recently returned and didn't have a vehicle of his own yet. If he borrowed Ben's car, I could use the opportunity to access the dashcam.

Though I had a plan, I hesitated. Miles had feelings for me, and asking for his help would mean taking advantage of them again.

But I had to know the truth about my father's death.
