Chapter 202
"Fighting? Ha, I was on a break, choked and dragged into the ER, standing there with three OB/GYNs looking at me like I'd lost my mind. You know what they asked me?"
Chris exaggerated the reenactment of the scene.
Sylvia, clueless, asked, "What did they ask?"
In a falsetto, Chris mocked, "Dr. Lennon, what are we saving here? Her period?"
"Now you get where my injuries come from? Next time, please remind him, urgent is urgent, but don't choke me.
At this point, Sylvia finally caught on to his story.
But her face remained impassive, silent.
Chris, oblivious to her mood, looked around, "Where's Rupert? Wasn't he always by your side?"
"He left," Sylvia replied coldly.
Rupert's presence was merely to ensure he could warn her not to speak out of turn as soon as she woke up.
Sensing the tension, Chris didn't know what to say next and changed the subject. "I'll go check if your prescriptions are ready."
As Chris left, Naomi attempted to speak.
"Actually, Rupert just now..."
"Mom, can we not talk about him anymore?" Sylvia interrupted, clearly annoyed.
"Understood," Naomi quickly agreed.
Sylvia thought for a moment, then approached, "Mom, I need you to find out something for me." "What is it?"
"Does Bridget have other male friends?" Sylvia whispered.
"As far as I know, no. She's distanced herself from all men to prove her loyalty to Rupert. Otherwise, why do you think Tristan would turn a blind eye to their engagement?" Naomi recalled.
Sylvia frowned in thought, then something hit her.
"Mom, does Bridget have a sort of ladies' circle? I think she's particularly close to one heiress."
"She does have her social circle, all heiresses." Naomi, worried, took Sylvia's hand. "Sylvia, I know you're upset, but we really can't compete with them."
"Mom, don't worry, I won't do anything rash. I just want to confirm something. Just help me quietly find out about that heiress."
Sylvia didn't dare tell Naomi the whole truth, knowing it would only scare her into spilling everything. Naomi nodded, no further questions asked.
Later, the nurse delivered the medication, and Sylvia had Naomi handle the discharge so she could rest at her apartment.
In the evening, Naomi called with news.noveldrama
"The heiress's last name is Lance, Fanny Lance. Her mother's family is in the import-export business, and her father and grandfather were politicians, truly the golden girl.
en
Bridget refers to her as a sister, and they're very close. There was an issue with one of Tristan's mines, and it was Bridget who got the Lance family to smooth things over, earning Tristan's leniency.
Though Fanny appears well-behaved, she's known to play wild in private; it's just that no one dares to speak out for the sake of appearances."
The Lance surname sparked Sylvia's memory.
Scenes flashed through her mind until she landed on one.
During the humid and heavy rainy season, Stella was hospitalized with a fever.
Sylvia, anxious, couldn't wait for the elevator and ran up and down the stairs.
The loud rain masked her footsteps, allowing her to overhear a dispute by the stairwell window unnoticed. Peeking out, she recognized the figures: Freya and Bridget.
"Big-time designer, you want my help with the Ms. Lance, and this is how you repay me?"
"Freya, don't push your luck. Your
status and position are all thanks to
me. Stay loyal, and once I'm part of the Garcia family, I'll make sure you're taken care of."
What do you think?
