Chapter 1283
Knowing she was just a child who didn't know any better, Willy didn't dare shove her away, squatting down to explain to her patiently. "Fleur, I'm not your daddy, nor will I be him! You have to remember this, I'm Yvette's daddy! Try to get along and be friends with her, okay?"
"No, no... I want you to be my daddy..."
"Fleur..."
As he was about to take his time to explain, Fleur burst into tears the next second, to his dismay. To make things worse, the children were just dismissed, so there were still a lot of cars, and many parents came and went, causing congestion. The scene was very much chaotic right then, and Willy slapped his head, feeling troubled.
What in the world did he do to deserve this? How did he land himself in so much trouble with a bunch of kids?
Worst of all, he couldn't scold or physically punish them!
For the first time, Willy felt absolutely irritated with a child, unable to walk away or leave her be!
By the time he could finally get out of the situation, handing Fleur to Cloud, who had come to pick her daughter up, his own daughter, who was still in his line of sight a second ago, had gone missing. Distressed, he squeezed out of the crowd hurriedly.
"Yvette, Yvette... Where are you? Come out. Answer Daddy, please!"
What the hell? She was still around a second ago. How had she disappeared in a blink of an eye?
Suddenly recalling their first encounter, Willy's face blanched instantly. She couldn't have met with another kidnapper, could she?
She didn't have another snake with her this time around!
Sh*t! It had only been a couple of minutes. It couldn't be, right?
Panicking, Willy headed to where he first met her. "Yvette, where are you?"
Meanwhile, Yvette had her head downcasted, sitting on a rock, as she scribbled and drew on the ground with her finger, looking all aggrieved and upset.
And Willy saw the lonely, pitiful scene when he found her.
Luckily Lauren had something to do that day and would be late, or her heart would break at the sight again!
Willy breathed a long sigh of relief as he slowed down his footsteps, his heart throbbing in pain. This little girl... She had really scared the sh*t out of him! She could've at least responded.
Though worried, he couldn't help feeling bad.
He took a step forward and stood for a long time, composing himself, before finally calling out softly, "Little witch?"
Triggered, Yvette immediately sprang up, glaring wide-eyed, lunging kicks and punches at him.
"Bad man! Bad man! You called me a little witch again!"
"Wah... You're not my daddy. I'm going to tell Mommy... You bullied me. You called me a little witch again!"
"You are a bad man. A horrible bad man!"
"Wah... I'm not a little witch!"
"I don't want you to pick me up! Wah... I hate you! You're a bad daddy!"
"Leave! Go away! Mommy, Mommy..."
Yvette bawled her eyes out in grievance as she flailed her limbs and wiped her tears away.
Willy then knew the name genuinely bothered her!
She was already beginning to understand the ways of the world.
Willy's heart tore apart as he looked at his bawling daughter, letting her release all her anger before he squatted down and hugged her tiny body, wiping her face with a handkerchief.
"You're upset because I called you a little witch, aren't you? But do you know the bad guys who bullied you will be happier the sadder you are..." Hearing that, she immediately bit her lips, stifling her sobs, no longer making much sound despite tears still pooling in her eyes. His daughter sure was smart!
Willy then explained as he continued to wipe her face dry.
"So, if another kid calls you 'little witch', you shouldn't get upset but look happy instead. Because they'll get upset if you're happy, and they'll stop calling you a little witch eventually. Daddy called you 'little witch' because our baby Yvette is very, very pretty, even prettier than the stars in the sky. But other kids call you 'little witch' on purpose because they're jealous of you, and they want to upset you. You won't look pretty anymore when you cry, and that'll make them happy!"
Though her gaze was laced with seriousness, listening to his words, Willy wasn't sure if she got any of it. A pause; he handed the doll and lollipops in his hand to her.
"So, a smart girl won't get angry but smile when they talk bad about her. You're the sweetest, prettiest, best princess; we'll correct what we did wrong, right? They're in the wrong for calling you a little witch when you don't have Bree with you anymore, right? So why should we get upset, angry, or cry when they're wrong? So the next time someone calls you 'little witch', ignore them. Our baby Yvette is a beautiful and elegant princess; we won't stoop to those who talk nonsense, right?"
Seeing that she had calmed down, Willy had a feeling she probably understood his words. Lauren often talked to Yvette, and it was beginning to rub
off on him, thinking he should communicate with her like she was a grown-up. After some thought, he mimicked Lauren's tone.
"And I'm wrong for calling you a little witch. Will you take this doll and these lollipops as a token of my apology?"
Surprised that she nodded, he hurriedly extended the gifts to her.
Yvette accepted them, holding the lollipops in one hand, touching the doll's head through the plastic wrapping, clearly loving it.
"Good girl, Yvette. So, the next time Daddy calls you, no matter how upset you are, you have to answer me and not run away like this, okay? What if another bad guy takes you away and I can't find you? Mommy will be very sad, won't she?"
Yvette nodded, then nodded another time, finally sparing him a glance.
Willy didn't dare ask for too much for fear that things would go back to square one if it got too much for her to handle. With that, he got up and suggested, "Shall we go home then? Mommy's still waiting for us..."
Willy reached his hand out, taking a gander at her. As she put her tiny hand in his palm, the subtle, tender warmth was a massive wave, making his heart swell.
They walked hand in hand for a short distance before Willy noticed she walked very slowly, stumbling a little, looking at the doll and lollipops from time to time, even smacking her lips. With that, he stopped and got down to her eye level.
"You want to eat the candy? Why don't daddy hold it for you then?"
Yvette nodded but still held the doll tightly in her arms, not very willing to part with it. Then, Willy took her backpack from her and unwrapped one of the lollipops. Seeing both her hands were occupied, he brushed her bangs aside and suggested.
"There's a lot of people in front. Why don't I carry you into the car while you eat, and we'll go pick mommy up earlier; sounds good to you?"
Willy negotiated with Yvette the
entire time, and she had clearly
gotten used to him after spending these past few days with her. Seeing that she nodded and spread her arms open, Willy's heart nearly jumped out, scooping her up, securing her with both hands,
striding toward his car.
On the other hand, Fleur's words got Cloud all muddled. Just as she turned around, finally successfully comforting her and carrying her into the car, she saw Willy carrying a little girl into his car.
Could it be that what Fleur said was true? He actually had a daughter, and she was also studying in the same kindergarten?
His child? Was she biological or just pure coincidence?
What in the world was going on?
Lauren deliberately showed up ten-plus minutes late to give the father and daughter some alone time. But then, worried Yvette would reject him, she still went to the area, circling a couple of rounds and checking the time before calling Willy.
Glad that he had successfully picked Yvette up and everything was fine, she said, "Okay, I won't go over then! I'll see you at home..."
Lauren turned the car around as she answered, making her way home.
Back then, she was shrouded in hatred; though things were still a little rocky lately, it was the first time she felt peace and security. As if this was how life should be.
She then ordered the kitchen to make dinner after she got home.
Right as she walked out, the sound of a familiar car came from the front yard, and a series of happy trots followed. The next second, a tiny figure pounced on her.
"Mommy..."
Lauren's eyes were all smiles as she caught her baby girl. "Yvette! Hey, what a beautiful doll. Did daddy give it to you? Did you thank him?"
It was evident the little one had softened up. Plus, after spending some time with Willy, there would be hints of foreign emotions in her eyes despite the front she put on. Lauren could tell Yvette longed for it deep down in her heart!
Yvette pursed her lips tightly as she wrapped her arms around Lauren's neck, nuzzling, evidently bashful. Lauren stroked her hair as she and Willy looked into each other's eyes, seemingly understanding something.
Noticing Yvette's eyes looked a little puffy, and there were tear streaks on her face, Lauren touched instinctively, asking, "What happened? Had she
cried?"
"Yeah, I upset her a little. It's alright now..."
Then, Yvette suddenly spoke, "Replace for me. I don't have Bree anymore!"
They were stumped at first, but seeing that she held a death grip on the doll, Willy was then struck with an epiphany. She was answering Lauren's question. She was finally willing to include him!
He couldn't help moving closer, inexplicably excited.noveldrama
"Then, how about you call me 'Daddy', and I'll take you to see many, many snakes like Bree? Big and little ones. And bears and lions, how about
that?"
Her eyes lit up, but she then buried her face in the crook of Lauren's neck the next second, only sparing Willy a glance occasionally as she nuzzled,
still not saying a word.
Because of the episode that day, their relationship had improved evidently. After dinner, Willy played
with her in the yard, having a blast even rendering her laughing out loud. However, tragically, they woke up to discover Yvette wouldn't get out of bed, fussing about, even beginning to have a running nose.
What do you think?
